This presentation will describe various pathways available for researchers to engage with and impact policy. Attendees will learn what we know from the study of how research and policy intersect. I'll also share insights from the practice of linking environmental research with policy decisions at multiple scales, from state legislatures to the Executive Office of the President, to the United Nations. Examples will cover a range of topics, including ecosystem services, water security, governmental economic accounts, and what climate change means for the management of ocean resources.

Stephen Posner is Director of Policy Outreach with the Gund Institute for Environment at the University of Vermont. In this role, he leads programs and develops strategic partnerships to connect Gund research with leaders in government, business, and NGOs - internationally, nationally, and in Vermont. Stephen is an expert in science policy who has worked with researchers from around the world to impact real-world policy and management decisions. His research has appeared in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Environmental Science & Policy, and Nature Communications. Previously, he led policy outreach at COMPASS and consulted with global companies to measure how they impact and depend on nature.
