Lúcio Proença

L4E PhD Fellow – University of Vermont

Lucio is pursuing a PhD in the Department of Community Development and Applied Economics at the University of Vermont. Born and raised in Florianopolis, Southern Brazil, Lucio has a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering (Federal University of Santa Catarina) and an MA in economics for transition (Schumacher College/UK). He worked for ten years with environmental policy at the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment. Lucio inquiries on how heterodox economic perspectives, such as ecological economics and Degrowth, can inform environmental policy. He is also an agroforestry enthusiast interested in policies that enable land regeneration and right livelihood for farmers dedicated to complex and biodiverse agroecological systems.
