Katie is a PhD student at McGill University interested in South Asian religions, spiritual ecology, and intentional community responses to climate change. She holds a B.A. Honours in Anthropology from the University of British Columbia and an M.A. in Religious Studies from the School of Religious Studies at McGill, where she examined how devotional forms of yoga (bhakti) shape notions of belonging among South Asian immigrants in Canada.
Katie’s doctoral research focuses on how spiritual beliefs inform climate resilience and adaptation practices within yoga-based intentional communities, with particular attention to utopian and dystopian imaginaries. Her multi-sited ethnography includes sites in India and Canada, analyzing both the infrastructural changes and the belief systems that influence community members’ understandings of climate change. Through her work, she aims to facilitate dialogue between these communities on effective strategies for disaster response, adaptation, and preparedness.
