Kate has spent the last 35+ years in the non-profit sector. She has worked as strategist and social entrepreneur, having started, led, advised, and served on boards of many non-profit organizations. Her work has ranged from humanitarian efforts in Africa, integrated water management in the US, strategic communications, safe energy, solar policy, renewables and energy policy in the US, China, Germany and Chile, among other areas. She holds a BA in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania with a minor in international business. She is certified as a California Naturalist and in Permaculture Design.  Kate earned a masters with distinction from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in International Environmental Policy. Since 2017 two of Kate’s central efforts have been co-founding and working on the ongoing development of the Leadership for the Ecozoic and the UC Climate Stewards for California Communities Initiative. Concurrently, she initiated and cofounded the Degrowth Institute in Chicago in 2024.
