Radical ways of studying extractivisms and alternatives is a two-day event on methodologies organised by The Global Extractivisms and Alternatives Initiative (EXALT) and Helsinki institute for Social Sciences and Humanities (HSSH) at the University of Helsinki. The purpose of the event is to explore novel ways to study resistance against extractivisms and environmental injustice which challenge conventional ways of carrying out research within social sciences. The event will be streamed and recorded.
- On Wednesday 25th of October Dr. Japhy Wilson Dr Japhy Wilson, Lecturer in Human-Environment Interactions in Bangor University will give a keynote speech entitled ‘Gonzo Geography on the Extractive Frontier’ in the context of Ecuadorian oil frontier and extractivist metropolis of Iquitos in the Peruvian Amazon. In his speech Wilson explores contested realities on extractive frontiers through Gonzo ethnography method.
- On Thursday 26th of October a group of scholars will gather into a panel to discuss complementary approaches to study extractivisms. Speakers will be announced later.
